Director Revathi. S. Verma wanted to cast Priyanka for a biopic on P. T. Usha. However, things didn’t turn out that way and the director decided to cast Katrina for the role of P. T. Usha in the biopic. Katrina is one of the finest actresses today as she has achieved a great place in Bollywood through her hard work. But even we can’t imagine a British actress in the shoes of a South Indian sport’s star, her physique and Hindi accent does not seem suitable for the role. It seems like Katrina Kaif is a cultural appropriation for the movie.
According to a leading Newspaper source “Revathy has had a few sittings with Katrina over the past few months. The duo met a few days ago in Mumbai for another narration. While the actor seems to be interested in the project, she will take a call only after the final narration. If Katrina gives her nod, it will mark her first biopic,”. The source added further, “She will have to undergo rigorous prep for the part, including adopting PT Usha’s sprinting style. Since the athlete is on board, she is likely to supervise the actress…”
Bollywood has set the standard of beauty, where only fair is beautiful. Perhaps this is the reason why they are not casting any coloured actress for such major roles. There are many south Indian actress who have achieved lots of popularity not only in Tollywood but also in Bollywood like Deepika Padukone and Nayanthara, and lot more who can fill in the shoes of PT Usha who can be authentic to south Indian.
